Steps
- Gently form the ground beef into patties, about 1-inch thick. Avoid overworking the meat.
- Season both sides of the patties generously with salt and pepper.
- Preheat a grill or skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the patties for 3-5 minutes per side for medium-rare.
- During the last minute of cooking, place a slice of cheese on each patty to melt.
- Lightly toast the burger buns on the grill or in the skillet.
- Assemble the burgers with lettuce, tomato, and your favorite condiments.
