Ingredients

600g flour
150g butter
300ml milk
150g raisins
30g baking powder

Steps

  1. Preheat oven to 220°C (425°F). In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and sugar.
  2. Cut cold butter into the flour mixture using your fingertips or a pastry blender until it resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Stir in raisins, then gradually add milk to form a soft dough.
  4. Turn the dough out onto a floured surface, knead briefly, and pat out to 1-inch thickness. Cut out rounds with a cutter.
  5. Place on a baking sheet, brush the tops with a little milk, and bake for 12-15 minutes until risen and golden.
  6. Serve warm with clotted cream and jam.
